UHS’ Spring Valley Hospital Opens Doors Fully Wired and Wireless
with Opus Healthcare Solutions’ Web-based Clinical Solutions

Las Vegas Four-Hospital System Launches Aggressive
Implementation Schedule to Accelerate Strategic Benefits

AUSTIN, TEXAS, December 8, 2003 — Opus Healthcare Solutions, Inc., a provider of advanced Web-based clinical data management software, today announced that Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas, a brand new 176-bed hospital, went live with six Opus Healthcare clinical products on October 2, 2003. This is the first phase of an aggressive clinical software launch for the entire four-hospital Valley Health System, including a total of over 1,100 beds, by May 2004. The Valley Health System is owned and operated by Universal Health Services, Inc.

“With the opening of Spring Valley we decided that we wanted to move forward with as many leading-edge clinical technologies as possible,” explains Mary Siero, System IS Director for The Valley Health System. “It was easy to accomplish our aggressive goals because Opus Healthcare’s products are so easy for clinicians to learn. The successful launch at Spring Valley has given us the confidence to proceed with installations in our other three hospitals.

”By equipping its hospitals with advanced Web-based software systems, The Valley Health System is aiming to accomplish several strategic business goals, including clinical data access across facilities, lifetime storage of patients’ medical records, and improved staff recruitment and retention. “The executives and IS teams at all four hospitals collectively chose Opus Healthcare as our primary clinical software vendor, because we believe the technology will help us meet our critical business goals,” explains Siero.

Spring Valley Hospital’s new technologies include the latest versions of six Opus Healthcare products: OpusOM® (Order Management), OpusMD® (Physician Web Access), OpusClinDoc® (Clinical Documentation), OpusLinks (Interface Engine), OpusLab® (Laboratory) and OpusCDR™ (Clinical Data Repository). The Valley Health System supported the installations with a state-of-the-art infrastructure, including wireless technology, personal computers, and printers. Its parent company, Universal Health Services Inc. (UHS), connects to the local network infrastructure over its sophisticated Wide Area Network (WAN), with its servers providing highly secure data storage in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

“UHS’ established WAN is one of the primary reasons we could move so rapidly with this installation,” explains Tim Rhoads, Opus Healthcare’s President and CEO. “This is much more than just a successful technology installation story; it’s the story of success at many levels, including thorough clinical staff training, superb project management, excellent corporate support, and dedication to a long-term strategic Web-based vision.

”An important part of The Valley Health System’s long-term vision is to provide easy-to-use electronic physician order entry over the Web. “Physicians’ willingness to use the system is essential in meeting this goal,” explains Siero. “Since the launch of OpusOM® in Spring Valley we’ve seen an increase in their interest in our technological capabilities, which is encouraging and very important in our competitive healthcare arena.

”The next hospital to go-live will be Valley Hospital Medical Center, the largest facility in UHS’ Valley Health System, with 400 beds, in January 2004. Next will be 200-bed Summerlin Hospital Medical Center and quickly following will be 346-bed Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center. Unlike Spring Valley Hospital, which is a newly opened facility, the other three are established hospitals that have been using a combination of paper and mainframe-based clinical systems.

“To facilitate our aggressive launch schedule, we’re currently conducting comprehensive training programs,” explains Siero. “Our training strategy includes first helping our clinicians become comfortable with PC-based technology. Then we’re training them on how to use Opus Healthcare Web-based applications. Our plan is working, because with the first hospital go-live we experienced no spike in calls to our IS support department. And our next installation’s clinician training program is right on schedule.”
